Émile Ratier

Emile Ratier was a lifetime farmer. From 1960, he began losing his sight but managed to turn this handicap into an artistic production of encouraging ingenuity. He draws on his memories and assembles pieces of wood, creating carts, Eiffel towers, mills, merry-go-rounds, music boxes and clocks. Constructions designed to be touched and heard ; a system of crank handles moves the animals, bells, and swings or rattles the leaf springs. A work of magic, intended to entertain those who came to visit him.
