Gianluca Pirrotta

Born 1981 in Palermo - SICILY.

Gianluca Pirrotta grew up in Emilia-Romagna, where his family moved when he was still a child. He attended primary school without ever learning to read. His idols are the goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca and actor Sylvester Stallone. In 1999 he was admitted to the workshop Mano Libera in Carpi. Right away he developed a passion for drawing and seems to have picked up the thread of a practice that occupied most of his childhood activities. He draws mostly people he calls "friends" and incorporates them in a system of straight and geometric lines. In the workshop, he built a small table with stacks of magazines which he collects compulsively. It is not uncommon that between the lines of his drawings and next to his "friends" he incorporates elements of daily life such as the medals he had won in competitions, featuring swimmers resembling gladiators. His work is remarkable for its formal simplicity and its range of colors that recall the artistic production of Paul Klee or Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and also by the emotion that emerges from the "friends" who are integrated to form a harmonious whole with the architectural network.
