Hiroshi Onodera was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1967 and moved to San Francisco at age six. He was an artist in the Creativity Explored studio from 2003 through 2007, and joined the studio again in 2010.
Onodera’s sweet temperament and calm nature is reflected in his quiet compositions of muted colors and delicate brushstrokes. Typically working in ink and watercolor, Onodera paints iconic portraits, images of food, and animals, centered in the picture plane with simple washes of color in the background. In an uncomplicated manner and with few lines, he captures the essence of his subjects.
When not making artwork, Onodera is an avid fisherman and crabber. His subjects are often inspired by his knowledge of the sport, as well as his memories of Japan.
