Olga Kardonskaya was born in Volgograd, Russia in 1986; she and her family moved to the US in 1999. Olga has been a gentle presence at our studio since 2008.
Kardonskaya uses pastels or colored pencils to make small stylized drawings of flowers, stars, or clouds; she then delicately cuts these out and collages them onto another surface that she has prepared with grouped areas of vigorous non-figurative marks. The resulting indexical arrangement of the silhouettes of her original drawings is a unique and compelling hybrid of abstract pattern-making and iconic realism.
