Georgine Hu

Born 1939 in Fouquières-lèz-Lens - FRANCE.

Georgine Hu had a very difficult youth. Her alcoholic father, several times committed, abused her as a child. Her mother could not cope with raising seven children. At the age of fourteen, Hu began suffering from psychological disorders. She was temporarily hospitalized at Fleury-les-Aubrais, in the Loiret. She left the hospital and worked as a maid. At seventeen, she was permanently committed to Saint-Venant.
Her work could be divided into two parts. There are the representations of the cities, images inspired by newspaper clippings, pictures of animals or human figures. The other part consists of a series of bank notes drawn on toilet paper. Georgine Hu represents herself as a historical figure or royal effigy. Similarly to the kings, she made her own money. These “banknotes” had for her a real exchange value and she distributed them to the hospital staff.
