Carl Hendrickson’s explorations of the way wood works are extravagant, magical, and yet paradoxically pragmatic. While cerebral palsy prevents him from pursuing very many projects – he communicates not in words but through emphasis of gesture and gaze– Hendrickson has produced a small, strong body of work. His medium is wood, a material with which he takes infinite pains, making certain that each piece of wood has been cut and fitted exactly as he has envisioned. He has been an artist at Creative Growth since 1976.
