Roger Cardinal is Emeritus Professor of Literary and Visual Studies of the University of Kent at Canterbury, England. He has been a primary figure in the field of outsider and self-taught art and is a leading authority on surrealism. Among his many book are Outsider Art (1972), Primitive Painters (1978), Figures of Reality (1981), Expressionism (1986) and Grandma Moses in the 21st Century (2001). He is member of the editorial board of the International Journal for Self-Taught and Outsider Art.
